Hey guys,
So as part of the new you transformation I am going to give you a few tips on how to look your best.
Lets start with makeup today.
Open your makeup bag and throw away anything you haven't used in 6 months. You will probably never use it again and it's unhygienic!
Now lets look at your foundation. Has it been matched to your skin tone and skin type? Unless you want to upset your skin and look like a barbie doll I strongly recommend you get this done. It really will make a difference. If you are not overly happy with your foundation I would really really recommend changing to MAC. It is a bit dearer than the average off the shelf foundation but it is actually better value for money. How I hear you ask? It lasts a lot longer, stays put all day and the finish you get is irreplaceable! It really is worth going to a MAC counter and getting them to match a foundation, concealer and blusher for your skin tone and type. Your card may take a small battering, but you will be happy for a long long time! The compliments make it all worth while!
If you want your makeup to last even longer then invest in a good translucent powder. My favourite is by MAC and is called 'prep and prime'. Keeps makeup on all day - magic!
Mascara next. How old is your mascara? If it is old and dry, try putting it in a bowl/sink of hot water for a few minutes. This should give it a new lease of life until you can be bothered to buy a new one! My favourite mascara of all time is Blackout by Dior. It is without a doubt amazing! I have never ever found something that comes close in cheaper or dearer mascaras. It is fabulous! However with the amount of mascara I wear I can't afford to wear this every day (sob sob :( ) so I use one by Rimmel called 'Rimmel Volume the Flash Max Bold' (long-winded name you'll probably forget, but comes in a bright green tube and has a curved brush). Its pretty good at thickening and lengthening and is my favourite cheapy mascara at the moment.
The best eyeliner I have ever come across is not an expensive one. It is the Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner. It's a wind up kohl pencil that really is waterproof! (I wore a lot of it to a foam party in Gran Canaria, where I was worse for wear and ended up breaking my toe but that's another story, and anyway it stayed put all night). At just £3.99 (at boots at time of writing) I always have about 3 lying around the house as they always seem to disappear when they're needed most!
To apply the makeup, use brushes/sponges. The oil from your fingertips breaks down the makeup and stops it lasting as long. Make sure you wash your brushes regularly to keep them in good condition. My favourite brushes are from MAC, but sadly being a poor student I cannot afford such luxuries. I tend to buy my brushes from Superdrug. They dont do a specific concealer brush so I use a large eyeshadow brush. Primark also do a good range of brushes.
I think that is probably about everything you'll need for looking good on a day to day basis. If you need help applying the makeup, ask at a makeup counter.
